The well-established university network Euroleague for Life Sciences (ELLS) submitted the proposal to become an alliance of the European University Initiative. The proposal for the “European University of Life Sciences for Sustainability (SUSTAIN-LIFE)” did not receive funding but was rewarded with a Seal of Excellence. The Seal of Excellence is a quality label awarded to proposals of university alliances that did not receive funding through Erasmus+ due to budgetary constraints. The label recognises the high quality of the proposal and helps other funding bodies take advantage of the European Universities initiative evaluation process.
The ELLS network is continuing its activities to transform the existing cooperation further and move towards the development of a fully-fledged European University. The SUSTAIN-LIFE Alliance partners are united to bring about change in the field of life sciences and educate change agents who will be able to enhance sustainable agri-food systems (see the website for more details: https://www.sustainlife-university.eu/). The SUSTAIN-LIFE Alliance builds on the well-established ELLS network, which has been instrumental in producing knowledge and educating BSc-, MSc- and PhD students on sustainable development during the past two decades.
