In 2022, the well-established university network Euroleague for Life Sciences (ELLS) decided to transform their existing cooperation and move towards the development of a fully-fledged European University, the “European University of Life Sciences for Sustainability (SUSTAIN-LIFE)”. The SUSTAIN-LIFE Alliance partners are united to bring about change in the field of life sciences and educate change agents who will be able to enhance sustainable agri-food systems. The SUSTAIN-LIFE Alliance builds on the well-established ELLS network, which has been instrumental in producing knowledge and educating BSc-, MSc- and PhD students on sustainable development during the past two decades.
Our Mission
The European University of Life Sciences for Sustainability (EULS2) aims to be the leading academic actor in advancing the European and global transition towards sustainable agri-food systems. This focus on agri-food systems entails a holistic approach to foster:
- Comprehensive food security and healthy food consumption, including the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger.
- Environmental sustainability and the preservation and enhancement of the natural environment, including biodiversity, and the quality of our soil, air, and water.
- The development of more dynamic, resilient, and inclusive rural economies and communities in Europe and around the world.
The above aims are closely interdependent. None can be durably achieved while sacrificing either of the other two. Any tradeoffs between them must be managed and mitigated.
