Environmental Case Studies in Europe: Wetland Water Management (ECSE 2010)
27 June - 10 July 2010; with 2 e-learning weeks beforeIntroduction
The 3rd ECSE is held 27 June - 10 July 2010 hosted by the Warsaw University of Life Sciences, Poland. Two weeks of home studies is followed by two weeks field course in Poland. Starting in Warsaw.A general background in environmental science including insight in ecology, botany, zoology, soil and water resources and management related to nature conservation is recommended. The course is aimed at students finalizing their BSc or starting up their MSc.
Staff from Warsaw University of Life Sciences and other ELLS universities and representatives from administration and enterprises will act as teachers and instructors.
Objectives
- To apply environmental science theories to problems observed in the field
- To get insight into different types of wetland habitats and conditions, dominating processes, interaction between main components such as soil, water and vegetation (entailing its impact on the avifauna), anthropogenic impacts and their environmental effects, environmental management policies and strategies
- To experience the management of natural resources, especially water and wetlands
- To learn tools for collecting, processing and interpreting environmental data
- To draw on different expertises for problems solving in a group of students of different nationalities and with different backgrounds
- To use intensive e-learning as integrated tool for the two weeks preparation to the field course
Schedule
ECSE (7,5 ECTS) is in English and includes:- Pre-course e-learning (approx. 25 hrs) is started with a videoconference 10th May 2010 for introduction
- Two weeks intensive e-learning (60 hrs) study from home university, starting 2nd videoconference 7th June 2010
- Two week field course in Poland 27 June – 10th July 2010. Venues are Warsaw and Brbieza region.

ECSE is for ca. 28 students in the end of B.Sc. / beginning of M.Sc.
Costs
This is a course supported by Erasmus Lifelong Learning programme of the EU commission. The accommodation and food is paid for and only a registration fee of 100 euro is required.Contact
