Euroleague for Life Sciences (ELLS) is pleased to announce the second Scientific Student Conference to take place at the Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Copenhagen on 12-13 November 2010.
The aim of the conference is to:

- to provide a forum for undergraduate and graduate students to present research papers and posters and to receive critical feedback from peers and experts in their field
- to enhance networking among students and teachers of the ELLS partner universities
- to promote an interdisciplinary dialogue
- to enhance mobility between the partner universities
The second ELLS Scientific Student Conference will focus on the requirement of natural resources such as clean water available for food production and food safety, and the impact of the surrounding nature and environment, incl. intelligent multi-purpose planning of the landscape. It will include eight thematic sessions (held as parallel sessions) as well as two poster sessions. All sessions will be introduced and chaired by prominent senior academics.
In addition to the scientific sessions there will be a campus tour for all participants as well as a market place with information on study programmes and topics for master theses at all ELLS universities.

Invitation
The ELLS Scientific Student Conference is open for BSc students, MSc students, diploma students and PhD students at the beginning of their studies.. MSc students from the Euroleague partner universities are invited to present a research paper or a poster, and BSc students from the Euroleague partners are invited to present a poster. Students can also participate as audience members without presenting a paper or a poster. Please contact your local ELLS coordinator to know if there is a possibility of getting a travel grant. Participation in the conference is free for students from ELLS partner universities. For students from other universities attending the conference as audience members, the conference fee is 65 euro.
Submission of papersDeadline for submission was 30 June 2010. All accepted authors are asked to present a poster. For each session, 3 MSc students will be selected to give an oral presentation, all other authors are asked to present a poster.
Registration
Please register online before 1 October 2010.
Attention: Students submitting a paper should only register after their paper has been accepted. Selected authors will be notified after September 1.

ELLS Distinguished Fellowship
In the frame of the Scientific Student Conference, the teachers will be asked to select outstanding students based on their performance in the conference relative to the level of their study. This selection will be based on the content of their work as well as on soft skills such as way of presentation. These students will receive the ELLS Distinguished Fellowship contributing towards the costs of a study period abroad either at an ELLS or a North-American partner university. In 2009 Joanna Dziankowska (WULS, Poland) was awarded the Distinguished Fellowship with a total amount of € 2.500, this year the prize will be split up between the best poster presentation (€500,- )and the best oral presentation. If you wish to apply for the ELLS Distinguished Fellowship, please indicate this on the form for submission of papers (you will find the form below).
ELLS Prize for Excellent Master thesisThe ELLS Prize honours excellent Master theses in the area of life sciences written in English language. Eligible are students of ELLS universities who actively participated in ELLS study exchange programmes. Students of the University of Hohenheim must have acquired 18 ECTS of their MSc programme at other ELLS universities. Students of other ELLS universities must have acquired 18 ECTS of their MSc programme at the University of Hohenheim.
